Dynamic Bokeh styles for Adobe Fireworks
Bokeh is the blurry thing in out-of-focus areas of an photograph. This visual effect has been widely used in web designs, but so far there has been no resources of Bokeh-effect for Adobe Fireworks. Buckle up little buddy – here they are.
These Bokeh-styles have been laying on my folders since early 2009 and now celebrating my newly born site I’ll release these secret little gems. Bokeh has been pretty much overused these days, there are meeellions of premade Bokeh-images for free grabs, but this little freebie makes things different. These are totally dynamic, so if you tweak your anchorpoints – the Bokeh moves and gets updated in totally unique abstract compositions. Pretty cool, huh?
Usage
- Select path, open up Styles-panel and click the style to apply it to the selected path.
- Use with dark/black background. Dark gradients will do fine too.
- Use only paths made with line or pen tool. Don’t even try to use them on shapes, they get messy.
- Use on curved or diagonal path. Using these on straight horizontal/vertical line gives dull results.
- It is a stroke-style. There is no fills here.
Tips
Using just one layer/path might be too simple, so go further. Use multiple layers, dim stuff in background, add vector-masks and use filters. Flatten stuff and use your own creativity to get the best of these styles.
Tweak! Select some path which has some of these Bokeh-styles and edit strokes. Go to Sensitivity-tab and check what the dropdown-menu has to offer. Wanna tweak scattering? Try adjusting Scatter-parameters. Need to fix the colors? Check out the Hue-parameters. Think as if Sensitivy-tab was a spaceship-controls and you are the pilot – eventually you will learn how to operate it.
Install
Download & unpack the zip. Boot up Fireworks, open up the Styles-panel. Click on upper left corner and select “Import Style Library”.
Or just drop the .stl-file to C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Adobe\Fireworks CS5\Styles\-folder (or /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fireworks CS5/Styles on OSX).
Download Bokeh Styles for Adobe Fireworks (2.52MB)
PS. The zip contains also examples in FW-source-image. Enjoy!
